Chosen for its character
We choose our leathers for how they feel, how they wear and the character they develop over time. Waxy Commander Original brings these qualities together. Its waxed suede surface changes gradually with use, developing a patina shaped by the way you wear and care for your shoes.
British leather heritage
Based in Leeds, England, C.F. Stead has been crafting fine leathers since the 19th century. World renowned for its suede, the tannery brings generations of knowledge and expertise to the making of Waxy Commander.
Quality begins with selection
This exceptional suede begins with carefully selected raw materials. C.F. Stead sources hides from regions including the UK, Northern Europe, New Zealand and Argentina, working with long-standing suppliers and checking the leather at several stages of production to ensure it meets its exacting standards.
Quality beneath the surface
C.F. Stead’s tanning process reduces the leather’s fibre structure by up to 25%, producing a dense suede that helps retain its shape over the toe. A blend of waxes is then worked into the leather to create Waxy Commander’s characteristic surface.
Leather that ages with you
Over time, the waxed surface takes on a variety of tones, with scuffs and creases becoming part of the leather’s appearance. These changes give your shoes an individual character that continues to develop with wear.

Cleaning
Brush off dust and dirt. For more effective cleaning, use Collonil Clean cleaner. Spray evenly onto clean leather from a close distance. If needed, spread evenly with a sponge or cloth. Let dry.
Option 1: Dubbin - For a darker and waxier finish
Use dubbin if you want to preserve the leather’s deep color and waxy appearance. Make sure the leather is clean and dry.
- Apply a small amount of dubbin with a cloth or by hand. Rub it evenly into the leather, especially on areas exposed to heavier wear.
- Allow to absorb and lightly polish if needed. This helps care for the leather’s natural oils, improves water repellency, and keeps the leather looking well-maintained.
Option 2: Collonil Organic Cover care spray - For patina and easy care
- Use Collonil Organic Cover spray if you want a quicker and lighter treatment that supports patina formation and helps maintain GORE-TEX breathability.
- Brush off dust and dirt.
- Spray evenly onto clean leather from a close distance. If needed, spread evenly with a sponge or cloth. Let dry naturally.
The spray’s natural oils help clean, protect, and nourish the leather while preserving breathability. This option is faster and well suited for regular maintenance.
In brief
Both treatments may darken the leather. Use dubbin if you want to keep a darker and waxier character. Use Collonil Organic Cover spray for faster cleaning and protective care and a lighter, more patinated look.
